What is my next most faithful step?
The Holy Spirit is leading me to..
Follow Jesus
If you’ve recently decided to place your trust in Jesus as savior and lord, you may soon find yourself wondering what the practical ramifications of that decision are. Even if you know that God loves you dearly and has taken the initiative to offer you forgiveness of sins through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus, it can be hard to know how to respond to all that grace and mercy. We call the process of learning to live differently as the result of following Jesus “discipleship.” Learn more:
Commit to being baptized!
First Baptist Church practices Believer’s Baptism by immersion after a person has made a personal decision to follow Jesus Christ and profess their faith in Him as Lord. Is this the next step in your faith journey?
Become a member of First Baptist Church!
Becoming a member of First Baptist Church means going a little bit deeper in your commitment to this place. When you are added to our membership rolls, you are invited to help make big congregational decisions, serve on leadership committees, give and serve your time and talents generously, and feel the great sense of belonging that comes along with all of those things. Learn more about becoming a member.
Find a small group or Bible study
While Sunday morning worship is the most well-attended and common part of our faith together, being a part of a small group (Sunday school class, Bible study, Monthly care or spiritual group) is one of the most important and often neglected parts of our spiritual formation. As Disciples (or apprentices) under Jesus, we are called to constantly learn together how to follow him in our lives.
Serve on a ministry team or committee
Baptists churches live with the common stereotype: “There are more committees in Baptist churches than actual members!” or “Baptist churches have committees on committees on committees.” While we don’t really have THAT many committees, we do believe that our common life together is formed not by a celebrity pastor or by a group of old men, but by the people themselves - the body of Christ. When you become a member of our church, we strongly encourage you to find a place on a committee that fits your interests, passions, talents, and knowledge.
Occasionally help with leading Worship
At First Baptist Church, we emphasize the participation of all people in the Worship of God. Whether it is reading scripture, singing, doing liturgical dance, painting, praying, doing the Children’s Moment, helping with Children’s choir, playing an instrument, or some other talent that you have, and we don’t know about, there are unlimited possibilities on how you can help serve God in our public worship service.
Give Generously
Giving is always a taboo and uncomfortable conversation to have. Some of us have it, some of us don’t. Some of us want to give and some of us don’t. Some of us wish we could give, but we don’t have it. Some of us dreadfully give and aren’t generous enough. While there are so many different feelings and experiences behind tithing and giving, we want you to know there is no shame here. Give what you can. If you only have a little, give only a little. If you have a lot, share those blessings with the God who gives graciously and abundantly to all.
Start my own ministry/passion project
When we decide to follow Jesus, the extent of our creativity is limitless. The same goes for our commitment to the Lord’s Church. When we become a part of this local body, the sky is the limit on how we can minister to our community. What gifts do you have that can be used for service to God? Let us know!
